Widget Theory of Economics

(editing will be complete in 24 hrs. It takes that time to see the bugs and get them out)

The happiest job would be the job where I go to work for myself. Where I am the boss, and I am making
something that other people want. Unfortunately, my talents are nor very salable. My training is, the training I have in
health care. But my real talents, the one's that come most naturally, writing and music and images, will not pay the bills.
In order to succeed in these area's you have to be number one. The odds for success are not very good. A song, a
poem, an article or story, or a book is lost in a sea of songs, poems. stories and books. These things are not Widgets. People want Widgets. A "Widget" could be anything, but it is usually not art. Although, art can describe a widget, it can thrive in an economy that makes widgets. It can inspire a widget.

But a widget is more concrete, It could even be edible.
as in, "After a long day making widgets, I get a hankerin, for a nice tasty widget"
Or, before going to work in the morning, I like to eat a whole bowl of sugary widgets"
You could grow widgets. or, you could manufacture them. "Orange colored widgets are rich in vitamin D, and they are organically grown and so yummy!" It's normal to hype a widget a bit. They call it advertising:. "Sorry we have to take a commercial break to advertise a new widget"
(Nite time TV)
As long as people want it, need it, and are willing to buy it. You have a market.
People buy widgets like mad.

They love them. People will buy widgets 24/7. Widgets are in high demand. So, you have to
dream up a widget of some kind that will interest people. And then you have to get a widget machine, and make that widget. This could be a very profitable and fun day job. You could write about it in the evening, or sing about your widgets.

What a joy it would be to wake in the morning, and go to work to make widgets in my own widget company. Then, I could go home and write songs, stories and poems about widgets:

"Making widgets with widget machines in a widget factory oh what fun" The Christmas Story.

The blues version
"My widget machine, is broke babe, I can't make no widgets no mo - dum dum dum dump dump dump"
"Once upon a time, there was a widget factory" The Bedtime story.
"My girl friend's name is Gidget, and she won't buy my widget" The Poem

I've dreamed up a theory:

The widget = Money.
Money= Toys. This fits very nicely with this maxim: "He who has the most toys when he dies, wins."
This is the universal law of Widgetry.

It could be an equation: W= MT squared.

Once this law is understood - all things are possible. The secret could be shared by everyone.

This basic idea is not new -. It has just been forgotten. Since the industrial revolution, success has been about making widgets in widget factories and growing them for mass consumption on widget farms These factories and farms employ people. They get a wage. The wage a sense of security
After some time, for employees, making widgets can be somewhat dull. But at some point -
those who get board with the idea may come up with an idea for a very salable widget of their own. The universal law
will dawn, and another industry will be born, that will provide jobs for others, health care and security. Everyone in the process is important.

Let's review the basics. You have invented a widget, or you have developed a better widget, or you have an idea for a very tasty widget. Ok, well, you get a machine to make it, or a place to grow it. And you make it the best it can be made.
All widgets must be subject to inspection. When it is perfected, it must be priced. How much TIME went into the widget? What did tha time cost? What did the materials cost, what is the widget over head. The next step is to mark up the price to a reasonable figure over the cost. This is called "PROFIT" Then you need advertising. A free widget offer,
a prototype widget to sell to the masses of widget buyers. Before you know it, there will be orders for zillions of widgets. Oh my. Ok well you will have to get out there and hire people. Train them to make widgets and get on the floor
with a mega phone and provide some incentive and inspiration.

"Ok we are the widget team. Time to make the widgets. We make the best danged widgets in the universe. We got to get these widget orders out on time. Lets get to work. If we can get these orders out on time, at the end of the month we make a hefty profit,
over and above your wage, you can share in a percentage of profit, are you happy?"
"Yes we are happy"
"Ok, lets make some widgets!!" They call that Management. Then comes the services, as it isn't all about making widgets. Widget makers need hair cuts, medical care, and other services. This may be the path way to economic recovery.

A new idea, and Team work, that's the spirit. It's team work and innovation like this, hard work, that built the Brooklyn bridge in two years time, And it's sorely lacking in America today.

What we seem to get now bewildered people who have lost the spark.
Ambivalence about Capitalism.
"Oh. all that is bad, if you make widgets you might do better than someone else, and that's not fair. You might become
a corporation of widget makers, and that is disgusting. Just make everyone equal, and give them the same salary, and
have the government fix everything" Don't challenge us. No widget is better than any other. All widgets are equal.

Profit...that's the worst!"

This attitude doesn't cut it, denying free enterprise is like denying the laws of gravitation. Such a dreary proposal.
I think that attitude is called - Socialism. Because it is so prevalent, we have an world wide economic crisis. The widget
making back bone of individual economies is not sufficient is to finance the crushing burden of the welfare state. And so countries like Greece, Italy Portugal and Spain have experienced economic collapse. There is pressure on Britain (although they understate it, they understate everything) and France. Our nation is retreating to an economic model similar to Cuba. The economic end is nigh - unless - someone comes up with a new widget, or a better way to make an old one. We are in denial and in a a stupor. Free enterprise is what makes the world go round. I'm afraid that's just the way it is. The best way to think of it is Ma slow. The arts are at the peak of his hierarchy, it's the industrial bases of that triangle that sustains it and philanthropy We have the triangle upside down. We need more widgets, and more innovative widget makers.

The problem is less about education. It is more a problem of imagination, innovation, and motivation and collective entusiasm (teamwork)
After a long day of dreaming about how to make the better widget, I like to listen to widget music.
Lothar and the handpeople. "Machines". They got it right. So did my dad. Someday, like him, I will think of a widget, until then, I am calling on you to do the same.
